Three hours lecture per week. UC/CSU, AA GE, CSU GE, IGETC Advisory: Eligibility for ENGL 100 C. This course is a survey of the history of Latin America from the independence period to the present. Emphasis is placed upon: the nation-building process, integration into the world capitalist system, the inequality between the elite classes and the masses, the development of new groups, such as the urban middle and working classes, the conflict between liberalism and the Catholic Church, race relations, challenges of political regimes, relationships during the Cold War, and new global economic models.
