This course is an introduction to the study of American politics at the national, state, and local levels with an emphasis on the role of gender. It examines women's participation in American politics from the perspective of race, class, and ethnicity. Contemporary political analysis will focus on women's political agenda from the 1960's to the 21st century, centeringaround issues such as equal pay, sex discrimination in education and the work place, affirmative action, reproductive rights, sexual choice, domestic violence, and increasing the representation of women in local and national political arenas.
