(Same as PSY 161 C) Four hours lecture per week. UC Credit Limitation/CSU, AA GE, CSU GE, IGETC, CAN PSY 6 Prerequisite: MATH 040 C or 2 years of high school Algebra with grades of "C" or better . This course provides an introduction tofundamental statistical concepts relevant to the social sciences but applicable to all disciplines. A conceptual approach is used to introduce students to topics of descriptive and inferential statistics including sampling, probability, central tendency, variability, correlation, regression, point estimation, interval estimation, and hypothesis testing. Also introduced are non-parametric statistics, such as chi-square, and parametric statistics, such as t-tests and ANOVA. Computers and calculators will be utilized. The use of current statistical software is emphasized. Data sets and problems will be from psychology, sociology, anthropology, economics, geography, and political science. This course is open to all students who meet the prerequisite, and it is required for sociology majors. This course is strongly recommended for all social science majors. Students who receive credit for this course may not receive credit for MATH 120 C.
