Prerequisite: BIOL 1108, CHEM 1211. Introduces students to the biology of non cellular, prokaryotic, and eukaryotic microorganisms. Topics include microbial metabolism, genetics, systematics, pathogenesis, epidemiology, and ecology. The history of microbiology, host defense against disease, and human exploitation of microbes will also be studied. The laboratory introduces students to the culture and identification of microorganisms.
