(Formerly Arabic 91.) Advisory: English Writing 211 and Reading 211 (or Language Arts 211), or English as a Second Language 272 and 273. Five hours lecture, one hour to be arranged in the in the Language Laboratory. Introduction to the language and cultures of the Arabic-speaking world. Development and practice of elementary speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills in targeted language functions with Arabic as the primary language of instruction. Introduction to basic geographical, historical and cultural aspects of Arabic-speaking world areas. Language laboratory practice will be part of the regular instruction to reinforce pronunciation, grammar, syntax, and conversation.
