Four hours lecture; three hours laboratory, one additional hour to be arranged in the Kirsch Center Resource Center or the Cheeseman Environmental Study Area. Introduction to biodiversity conservation as a branch of the environmental sciences, conservation biology and related scientific fields. Includes survey of species and ecosystem diversity, elements of biological classification; evolutionary trends and the mechanisms of evolution; ecology and the importance and problems of biodiversity conservation today.
