(Formerly English as a Second Language 162.) Credit course - Does not apply to De Anza Associate degree. (Restricted to students whose native language is not English.) Prerequisite: English as a Second Language 252 or a qualifying score on the English as a Second Language placement test. Corequisite: English as a Second Language 262 students may also enroll in English as a Second Language 261 and 263 concurrently. Three hours lecture, one-half additional hour to be arranged working in Cross Cultural Partners and/or use of the English as a Second Language Laboratory and/or use of the Listening and Speaking Laboratory and/or work in the Writing and Reading Center and/or civic engagement and/or community service. Development of advanced reading comprehension, vocabulary building skills, and improved reading rate in extended written materials.
