(Formerly English as a Second Language 151.) Credit course - Does not apply to De Anza Associate degree. (Restricted to students whose native language is not English.) Prerequisite: English as a Second Language 244; or a qualifying score on the English as a Second Language placement test. Corequisite: English as a Second Language 251 students may also take English as a Second Language 252 and 253 concurrently. Three hours lecture, one-half additional hour to be arranged working in Cross Cultural Partners and/or use of the English as a Second Language Laboratory and/or use of the Listening and Speaking Laboratory and/or work in the Writing and Reading Center and/or civic engagement and/or community service. English speaking and listening practice in a variety of contexts. Development of vocabulary appropriate in both formal and informal situations. Discussion and analysis of topics in American culture and cultural differences.
