(Formerly English as a Second Language 163.) Credit course - Does not apply to De Anza Associate degree. (Restricted to students whose native language is not English.) Prerequisite: English as a Second Language 225 and 253; or a qualifying score on the English as a Second Language placement test. Corequisite: English as a Second Language 263 students may also enroll in English as a Second Language 261 and 262 concurrently. Four hours lecture, one additional hour to be arranged working in Cross Cultural Partners and/or use of the English as a Second Language Laboratory and/or use of the Listening and Speaking Laboratory and/or work in the Writing and Reading Center and/or civic engagement and/or community service. Paragraph and short essay writing skills. Using clear expository English prose in well-developed paragraphs and short essays.
