Prerequisite: Ability to play a keyboard instrument and read music. One hour lecture, two hours lecture-laboratory. (May be taken six times for credit as long as the topics/projects are different each time.) Development of the ability to play jazz piano arrangements from lead sheets in a variety of jazz styles using knowledge of jazz harmony, jazz piano techniques, and improvisational skills. Improvisational skill on the piano is developed through the understanding and practice of scale choices and the application of techniques from melodic development.
