Prerequisite: Ability to play first-position and moveable major, minor and dominant 7th chords. Advisory: English Writing 200 and Reading 200 (or Language Arts 200), or English as a Second Language 261, 262 and 263. Three hours lecture-laboratory. An intermediate-level study of the common practices used in jazz and blues music. Guitar styles from the 1940's to the present will be examined through the use of recording and written examples. Chord voicing, scales, right hand picking techniques, and development of solo skills in these styles will be emphasized.
