(Formerly Philosophy 16.) (See general education pages for the requirement this course meets.) Advisory: English Writing 1A or English as a Second Language 5. (Also listed as Humanities 14C. Student may enroll in either department, but not both, for credit.) Four hours lecture. A study of the evolution of philosophical thought in Japan. The emphasis will be directed to the development of Zen Buddhism. Related areas of study, such as Shinto, will also be included. Attention is given throughout to the influences of Eastern philosophy in modern life.
