(See general education pages for the requirement this course meets.) Advisory: English Writing 200 and Reading 200 (or Language Arts 200), or English as a Second Language 261, 262 and 263. Five hours lecture, one hour laboratory. Introduction to the language and cultures of Spanish-speaking world areas. Speaking, listening, reading and writing language skills at the first level of elementary Spanish are developed within the framework of language as a fundamental expression of culture. Spanish is the primary language of Instruction. Language laboratory practice and/or assignments, at home and/or in the language lab, are an integral part of instruction supporting the development of language skills in the areas of pronunciation, structure, syntax, and oral communication.
