Advisory: English Writing 200 and Reading 200 (or Language Arts 200), or English as a Second Language 261, 262 and 263. Five hours lecture, one hour laboratory. Introduction to the Vietnamese language and culture. Development and practice of basic communication skills within a cultural framework. Emphasis on language as an expression of culture and a medium of communication. Language laboratory practice to reinforce intonation, pronunciation, grammar and syntax structures.
