This course introduces the student majoring in Mathematics or Mathematics Education to the language and notation used in all upper level mathematics courses. Students will read, critique, develop and present proofs of statements about set theory, rational numbers, complex numbers and number theory. Methods include direct proof and proof by counterexample, proof by contradiction and proof by induction. Prerequisite: MAT 221.
