This course introduces the use of drugs and anesthesia in dentistry. Drug classes, actions, interactions, and adverse effects are discussed.The use of topical and local anesthesia is addressed. A unit on medical mathematics is also included. Age-specific pharmacologic needs are discussed. Special emphasis is placed on the applications of pharmacology to dental hygiene practice. Legal aspects are addressed also. Proof of professional liability insurance required. 30 class hours. Prerequisites: DES 1100C and DEH2802L.Corequisites:DEH2005 and DEH 2804L.
