This introductory survey of perennial issues in human existence provides a rich evaluation of meaning. A critical examination is conducted of the fundamental assumptions, terminology, and schools of thought addressing the issues in metaphysics, logic, epistemology and axiology (ethics and aesthetics). Discussion as well as lecture will focus on both classical and contemporary readings, such as Plato,Aristotle,Augustine, Aquinas,Descartes,Locke,Berkeley,Hume, Kant, Nietzsche, Wittgenstein and Sarte. This course satisfies the Gordon Rule writing requirement. A grade of "C" or highermust be attained. 45 class hours. Prerequisite: Appropriate placement test scores or ENC0010 and REA0002 (completed with a grade of "C" or higher for each course)
