This course describes and analyzes the history of America's greatest crisis, from its origins during the early 19th century through the Reconstruction of the South in 1877. Also addressed will be the aspects of slavery, states' rights, emancipation,military conflict, sectional reconciliation and remembrance. The course also includes political, military, social, economic, and cultural dimensions of the conflict in equal proportions. This course satisfies the Gordon Rule writing requirement. A grade of "C" or higher must be obtained. 45 classhours. Prerequisite: Appropriate placement test scores or ENC0010 and REA0002 (completed with a grade of "C" or higherfor each course)
