( 3) This course is designed to provide the student with an overview of the legal and regulatory requirements for the maintenance, retention, and dissemination of health information and the role of medical documentation in legal proceedings. Major topics include: federal, state and JCAHO regulations; facility bylaws rules and regulation; the federal and state legal system; authorizations and consents, release of information, concepts of liability; civil procedures; and the role of risk management.
