ECE*H 106 - Music and Movement for Children

(formerly ECE-H106) 3 cr. Prerequisites: ECE*H101. This course is designed to have students acquire skills in order to plan and implement creative music and movement education experiences for young children. Areas of exploration will include singing, listening to music, rhythmic activities, chants, creating music, using instruments with children, multi-cultural music, creative dance and movement, musical games, music for children with special needs, and using music spontaneously in the classroom. The main goals of the course are to develop an understanding of the importance of music and movement education experiences in an early childhood environment, the role that music plays in the growth and development of young children and how these experiences can be creatively planned, implemented and integrated throughout the daily curriculum. All students should be able to play one accompaniment instrument well enough to build a repertoire of music and movement education experiences.
