5 cr. (formerly MEC-H2130) Prerequisites: CAD*H150, MEC*H251, MFG*H210. Deals with the concept of mechanical design from concept to specifications. Covers the procedures, data, and techniques necessary to design/select mechanical components such as gears, springs, bearings, belt and chain drives, clutches, brakes, fasteners, shafts and screws. The use of microcomputers in the design process is emphasized. A design project is also included. Three class and four laboratory hours weekly.
