3 cr. This course covers the fundamentals of the basic structure of ASL grammar, introduces basic information about the deaf community and the deaf culture. Students will learn basic sign language and the finger-spelled alphabet. The course also presents information about the use of sign language by the deaf, as well as specialized uses with the deaf/blind, mentally retarded, autistic, and mentally ill.
