Prerequisites: satisfactory completion of BSC2010, BSC2010L with a grade of C or better and satisfactory completion of College Preparatory English (ENC0020). A combined lecture/lab course emphasizing organismal and population biology. Topics include regulation of cell metabolism, comparative plant and animal physiology, developmental biology, population biology and ecology, evolutionary biology and applications to clinical sciences. Strong college chemistry and algebra background highly recommended. Course evaluation will emphasize problem solving, critical thinking, independent and group projects, open-ended questions and analysis of scientific data. A graphing scientific calculator is highly recommended. Lab exercises will supplement as well as augment lecture material. Practical lab work, computer simulations, and field exercises will be combined to provide challenging problems designed to enhance critical thinking skills. Students required to work through computer simulations and Internet research outside of class. Lecture 3 hours. Lab 2 hours. Additional fee.
