This is a creative writing course. Students will study the levels of poetry and its various elements. They will practice generating different poem forms to develop the craft of writing poetry. Class will be conducted as a workshop and students will critique each other's works. They will submit a portfolio of their work at mid-semester and at the end of the semester. The class will also publish a poetry magazine and/or hold an end-of-semester poetry performance event. Students will be encouraged to participate in on-line poetry forums and contests. Prerequisite: "C" or better in ENGL 101.3 credits (3 lecture hours),spring semester, even years. This course satisfies SUNY General Education Requirements for "The Arts".These credits count towards the Humanities (List A) requirements for graduation.
