Prerequisite: NURS 1080 or licensed RN or permission of instructor This advanced course builds on the basic physical assessment skills learned in the first semester. Topics include percussion and auscultation of breath, heart, and vascular sounds. The course also examines geriatric and cultural variations in physical assessment findings. Students will further develop skills in the use of the ophthalmoscope, otoscope, and reflex hammer and discuss variations found via physical examination which indicate the need for referral. Students will develop and apply skills through practice on an adult lab partner and the documentation of findings. (4 contact hours: 1 lecture, 3 lab)
