This course provides a basic survey of the importance of Information Technology (IT) security awareness and data confidentiality. It covers all aspects of information security in broad, easy to understand concepts and explains the value of securing data, both for individuals and organizations. Hands-on exercises will demonstrate several course concepts. The course introduces legislation, local, state, and federal privacy policies and liability of individuals and institutions related to data confidentiality and integrity. It also introduces risk management, security policies, and common threats and countermeasures. In addition, the course presents best practices in access control and password policies. (1.5 contact hours: 0.75 lecture, 0.75 lab)
