Prerequisite: MSTH 1300 or permission of instructor This course continues the study of massage therapy by introducing therapeutic techniques for use on the elderly and on athletes. Students will also expand the skills learned in the general clinical setting and practice palpation of muscles and bony landmarks. This course presents philosophies and benefits of massage on the elderly and on athletes, communication skills, patient assessment, contraindications, safety concerns, confidentiality, professionalism, and proper documentation. This course includes an introduction to common musculoskeletal problems in the general population and effective treatment techniques. (7 contact hours: 1 lecture, 6 clinical)
