Students will focus on the fundamentals of flying an aircraft solely by reference to instruments and will become familiar with flight instruments and navigational aids. Topics include basic navigation systems such as VOR (Very High Frequency Omni Direction Range), ADF (Automatic Direction Finder), ILS (Instrument Landing System), as well as advanced navigation systems such as GPS (Global Positioning System), LORAN, INS, and RNAV. This is the ground school portion of the instrument pilot rating. 3 credit hours.
