This course introduces students to the development and contemporary status of international relations and world politics. The course examines the emergence of the modern nation-state system, competing theories and strategies in foreign policy decision making, the great power rivalries between states, including their causes, consequences and implications for the future. Other topics include the status of power politics in the 21st century, terrorism, non-state actors in the global system of politics, the emergence of a globalpolitical economy and the Global South in a world of wealthy nation-states.
