An introduction to the role of the Associate Degree Nurse in identifying and meeting the self-care needs of individuals through the application of fundamental nursing skills in assessment and intervention. The primary emphasis is the Universal Self-Care Requisites. Opportunities will be provided to learn and begin to use the health/helping/nursing focus to determine appropriate nursing interventions. Content will include family theory and dynamics, diversity, communication skills, health promotion, teaching-learning theory, problem-solving process, levels of prevention and caring behaviors. A service learning course. Prerequisite: Admission into the Nursing Program and NUR 100 Co-requisites: BIO 117, NUR 105, ENG 101 3 class hours; 12 clinical laboratory hours, 6 laboratory hours
