Creative nonfiction relies on truth, on the facts of the world and/or the self as the writer finds - and transforms - them.It is much like fiction in its reliance on scene, dialogue, and storytelling. Yet it can take many forms, such as the personal essay, literary memoir, the travel essay, literary journalism, literary biography, etc. This course will investigate the basic principles of the form, concentrating on principles of literary journalism and the personal essay, and give students the opportunity to produce original works of creative nonfiction. The course may also deal with ethical and critical issues related to truth, perception, memory, and subjectivity. Prerequisite: ENG 102
