An introductory course in basic reading and writing skills in English. Students will learn strategies for comprehension, vocabulary, and reading enjoyment. They will begin to use written English for everyday situations, as well as for further study of English in an academic environment. They will also learn the basic mechanics of a descriptive paragraph using elementary rules of punctuation and structure. Prerequisites: Literacy in native language and knowledge of the Roman alphabet. 6 class hours
