5 cr. (formerly MEC-H1108) Prerequisites: TCN*H101, MAT*H172, PHY*H121. Corequisite: MAT*H185. Analysis of the forces which act upon rigid bodies at rest is the subject of this course. Balances of forces and moments on an object provide the basis for equilibrium calculations involving points, rigid bodies, frames and machines with a variety of supports (including frictional). The use of free-body diagrams and neat, professional level presentation of work is stressed. Five class hours weekly.
