(formerly SOC-H210) 3 cr. Prerequisite: SOC*H101. This course is an introduction to understanding gender as a social phenomenon. Topics will include gender roles; the political, socioeconomic and legal implications of gender; rape and sexual harassment; and the future of gender roles. The overall goal in this course is to deepen awareness and understanding of gender as a social phenomenon, to increase ability to think in a sociological way, to acquire a clear sense of the varieties of feminist thought and analysis as well as the male perspective, and to understand how gender acts as an organizing principle in our society.
