3 credits 2 lecture/2 studio (GRPH-111) (74-260) An introduction to the computer as a graphic design and artist's tool. Using Macintosh OS, students learn basic use and application of postscript illustration (Adobe Illustrator), computer paint/image process (Adobe Photoshop), and scanning software programs to the art and design process. Emphasis is on hands on use of the computer, and how the computer can aid the artist and designer's problem solving process through interactive visual alternatives. Lecture topics include the evolution of computer graphics, an overview of the range of computer graphics systems and their various capabilities, hardware components, software programs, high resolution output, and application of computer graphics to the fields of art and design. Knowledge of Windows or Macintosh OS is required.
