This course examines the Practical Nurse's role when caring for older adults in longterm care. Cultural diversity, legal/ethical considerations, and the communication process are examined to provide holistic care to aging clients. Interpersonal and communication skills, and critical thinking are employed.This course explores the normal aging process with emphasis on promoting, maintaining and restoring health in older adults. Leadership skills such as delegating to nursing assistants and team reports, plus effective communication and time management skills are presented. 15 hours classroom and 90 hours clinical instruction. Proof of professional liability insurance is required. Prerequisite: PRN 0002C and PRN 0030C.
