Prerequisite: satisfactory completion of College Preparatory English (ENC 0020) and College Preparatory Reading (REA 0002) or appropriate placement scores. This course is designed to familiarize students with the history, civilization, culture and religion of the Middle East. The survey course covers the broad sweep of Middle Eastern history and culture including the foundation of Islam and its interaction with Judaism and Christianity. Its primary emphasis will be to provide a basis for understanding the background of the major problems facing the Middle East today.
