A laboratory course dealing with the theoretical and practical applications of cellular and molecular biology. Particular attention will be given to nucleic acids and DNA technology. The primary model systems utilized will be prokaryotic cells. Major emphasis will be on: solution chemistry, micropippetors, DNA extractions, restriction enzyme fragmentation, electrophoresis, fragment analyses, mapping, gene splicing (ligation), polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and sequencing. Code 3 course fee. Prerequisite: BIOL 264
