Examines the relationship between institutional confinement and community-based supervision. Emphasis is upon probation, parole, pretrial release programs, and halfway houses. The application of these programs to special offender groups, as well as to the larger population of adult male offenders, is addressed. The overall effectiveness of community-based correctional programs is also evaluated. 3 hours lecture Prerequisite: CJ 101 or CJ 111
