This course is an introduction to human services as a profession. The historical development of social services and social values relative to social service policies are examined. The competencies and qualifications required to become an effective human services worker are defined. Ethical, professional, and legal issues, credentials, licensure, accreditation, and standards of human services programs and workers will be reviewed. The major theoretical orientations, multicultural awareness, program evaluation, and future trends of the human services profession are examined. 3 hours lecture
