This introductory course in fiber optics covers the theory of light transmission and its limiting factors. It includes Modal and Chromatic Dispersion and signal attenuation along with how they impact on signal bandwidth.The various types of fiber optic cable are explored while noting their application characteristics.The course also covers the techniques for applying fiber optic connectors and splices as well as the use of light sources, light meters, fusion splicers and OpticalTime Domain Reflectometers (OTDRs). Prerequisite: ET101Technical Electricity 1.Corequisite: ET102Technical Electricity 2.
