3 credits Accurate processing of health insurance claims and billing procedures is studied in this course. Abstract patient records and other source documents to accurately code all diagnoses, procedures, and services using ICD-9-CM for diagnoses, and CPT codes. Research and apply knowledge of insurance rules and regulations for major insurance programs. Operate the office bookkeeping system properly. Accurately post charges, payments, and adjustments to patient accounts. Review all insurance payments and explanation of benefits forms. Perform patient scheduling using the Medical Office Manager software. PREREQUISITE: HA-140, Must have 42 credits (Last Semester)
