This course will explore the basics of funk guitar. Emphasis will be placed on the playing styles of New Orleans funk, the music of James Brown, and the music of funk/rock groups. Analysis of playing styles, the role of the guitar in a funk group, and improvisational concepts both chordal and single note ideas will be explored. Prerequisites: MUS 125 and MUS 126 or permission of instructor.
