This course provides the basic information for orientation to the profession of dental hygiene including: the dental team, the role of the dental hygienist, professional skills, ethics, jurisprudence, terminology, and the history of dental hygiene. It also provides an introduction to primary methods of prevention of dental disease: plaque control, fluorides and sealants. Emphasis is placed on the student's development of personal and client oral hygiene skills as well as educational techniques.
