Prerequisite: two German courses numbered 210 or greater Introduction to the concept of German as a modern, evolving human language. German as a synchronic phenomenon with emphases on phonology, morphology, syntax, and sociolinguistic and regional varieties as well as a diachronic phenomenon utilizing a chronological and cultural survey of the development of German from its earliest forms. May satisfy the pre-fall 2008 general education requirement in upper-level humanities. 4 credits.
