The first third of this course is an introduction to basic concepts in digital electronics, including topics in gates, logic circuits, Boolean Algebra, number systems, encoders, decoders and arithmetic circuits. The rest of this course examines the organization, architecture and hardware aspects of digital computer systems. Topics include an introduction to different microprocessor architecture, PC system organization and operating systems, PC cases and power supplies, motherboards, bus structures, memory, I/O interface devices, disk drives and video displays. Laboratory exercises in digital electronics and computer systems will be required. S (S)
