This course introduces the basic concepts of microbiology and their applications in the operating room environment. Emphasis is placed on the microbiological foundation of the infectious disease process, nosocomial infections, control of microbial growth and aseptic technique. This course takes the body systems approach and discusses microorganisms in relationship to the body system where they are normally found or may cause infectious processes.
