This course covers topics of interest and relevance for deaf and hard of hearing students beginning their college experience. It is for students enrolled in the Preparatory Program for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students. Lecture and group discussion of selected life management topics are the main instructional approaches. Topics include support services, how to utilize sign language interpreters, interpreter's code of ethics, sexual harassment policy; landlord tenant relations, getting along with roommates, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) rules and regulations, Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the 1973 Rehabilitation Act, health maintenance, basic nutrition (healthy eating and proper diet), oral hygiene and dental services, New Jersey relay services, and organizations for the Deaf and Heard of Hearing.
