This course examines the interrelationship between race, class, gender and ethnicity and how these structures have shaped the experiences of all people in America. A sociological and historical perspective is applied to analyze how a social configuration characterized by cultural diversity affects the individual consciousness, group interaction and group access to institutional power and privileges. SOCI 101 is recommended, but not required.
