Students in this course will be required to see and discuss at least five Shakespeare plays. Several theater trips will be available, and films and videotapes will be screened in class or in the library. Students will be able to complete an in-depth review of a Shakespeare production by the end of the semester as well as to complete a term paper on some aspect of Shakespeare's works. Students will also be required to know the basic facts about Shakespeare's life and theater craft and will be able to identify and discuss the basic elements of comedy, tragedy, history and romance plays.
